Craftsmanship is an awareness which needs to be kept to reveal its spirit.

传统手工艺中蕴含丰富的审美意识、造物思想、技术发展和文化习俗等信息，作为精神与物质相结合的一种文化现象，它拥有巨大的能量，促使平常之物生成安泰之美。对手工艺的追求使我们同历史、前人的审美与生活紧密相连，在传统生活方式的逐渐消逝中，赋予我们文化归属感和认同感。纷繁现实下，手工艺品以独一无二的温度拥抱着我们，成为理想的庇护所。

Containing rich information such as aesthetic consciousness, philosophy of creation, technological advancement and cultural customs, the cultural phenomenon of traditional craftsmanship which is the combination of spirit and material has great energy to turn ordinary objects into delicate handicrafts. The pursuit of craftsmanship brings us closer to the history and the aesthetics and life of predecessors, strengthening our culture ascription and the recognition of cultural identity in the process of traditional lifestyle’s fading away. Nowadays, handicrafts embrace us as an ideal shelter full of warmness.

自工业化兴起以来，城市化与全球化浪潮席卷每个角落，多元时代下的传统手工艺受到外部环境与内部因素的双重考验，不断探索传统与创新的边界，诠释继承与发展的关系。今日的手工艺不单要基于对传统的尊重与认识，更要致力于不断地发展。“传统”与“创新”既是对过去的回响，也是对未来的展望；既是踏实地驻足脚下，亦是不断地深化未来。

With the rise of industrialization and the waves of urbanization and globalization having swept across the globe, the traditional craftsmanship faces dual challenges of external environment and self-development in the era of diversity, yet still explores the boundary between the tradition and innovation and explains the relationship of inheritance and development all the time. Today, the craftsmanship requires not only the respect and knowledge of tradition, but also the commitment to unceasing innovation. “Tradition” and “Innovation” are the echo of the past while the prospect of the future as standing firmly at present while marching towards the future.

“一个民族只有寄望青春、永葆青春，才能兴旺发达。”青年手艺人的茁壮成长，是推动优秀传统手工艺创造性转化和创新性发展的希望。手工艺如何通过青年人焕发新的活力与光彩？手工艺如何走向现代化并融入现代生活？手工艺如何使传统成为革新的要素？找寻这些未来的答案，是我们举办“苏韵流芳——青年手工艺展暨大赛”的初衷。

“A nation’s prosperity and dynamism are tied to its young generation”. The growth of youth craftsmen motivates the creative transformation and innovative development of outstanding traditional craftsmanship. How does craftsmanship glow with new vitality and charm through the youth? How does craftsmanship step into the modernization and integrate with modern life? How does craftsmanship make tradition the key to innovation? Finding answers for these questions is the reason for us to hold Youths’ Handicrafts Exhibition and Contest themed on The Charm and Inheritance of Jiangnan in 2025.

为此，“苏韵流芳——2025青年手工艺展暨大赛”以苏州为起点，走出苏锡常，面向江苏全省并邀约上海、浙江青年手艺人，共襄展示江南技艺与文化。举凡琢玉、雕金、镂木、刻石、泥塑、紫砂、髹漆、针绣、剪纸之类，皆以物品为媒介，向我们展示今日乃至未来之手工艺。这些青年人以坚定的信念、跃动的创造力和精湛的技艺，积蓄着在传统中获得的美的力量，为接续古今文脉筑起新的桥梁。“梦虽遥，追则能达；愿虽艰，持则可圆”，我们坚信，未来可期。

Therefore, The Charm and Inheritance of Jiangnan——Youths’ Handicrafts Exhibition and Contest in 2025, starting in Suzhou while going out of Suzhou, Wuxi and C hangzhou, faced the whole Jiangsu Province and invited the youth artisans from Shanghai and Zhejiang Province to co-display the technique and culture of Jiangnan. Mediated by objects, the craftsmanship including jade carving, gold engraving, wood carving, stone carving, clay figurine making, zisha making, lacquering, needling and paper cutting shows both present and advancing skills. These young artisans with firm faith, rich creativity and exquisite craftsmanship accumulate the power of beauty acquired from the tradition and build a new bridge for cultures of both the ancient and the present. “The dream which is in distant can come true as long as we chase it; the goal full of difficulties can be achieved as long as we stick to it”. And we firmly believe the future is promising.

本次展览暨大赛的成功举办，离不开多方的支持与帮助。在此，我们衷心感谢共青团江苏省委社会联络部、江苏省非物质文化遗产保护中心，在活动筹备与开展过程中给予的悉心指导；感谢苏州市文化广电和旅游局、苏州市人力资源和社会保障局、共青团苏州市委员会，在活动组织、资源协调等方面的大力支持；感谢苏州市非物质文化遗产保护管理办公室的积极协作。让我们在弘扬非物质文化遗产、促进传统手工艺交流的道路上继续携手共进，为推动文化事业的繁荣发展贡献更多力量！

The success of this exhibition and contest relies on the support and assistance of many parties. We extent our sincere thanks to the Department of Social Liaison of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the Protection Center of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Jiangsu who gave careful guidance during the preparation and development of this event; to Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, Suzhou Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and Suzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League of China who gave strong support in aspects of the event organization and the resource coordination; and to the Protection and Management Office of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Suzhou who made positive efforts. Let us make joint efforts to carry forward intangible cultural heritage and promote the communication of traditional craftsmanship so as to make more contribution to the prosperity of cultural undertakings!
