Preface
The numerous movable Chinese movable cultural relics are not onlytrue proofs of Chinese brilliant and splendid culture, but also animportant component of human precious intangible cultural heritage.After the third national cultural relics general investigation, thefirst national movable cultural relics general investigationinitiates a thorough check in cultural field, which aims to examinethe current relics resources, enhance cultural relics protectionand set up a project of establishing a cultural heritage power.

Located in the southeast of China, Suzhou owns colorful andabundant movable cultural relics. However, most of them are unknownby local people, even the local cultural bureau knows little aboutthem. Therefore, initiating a national movable cultural relicsgeneral investigation work will fully grasp the quantity,distribution, preserving and using situation of the movablecultural relics, strengthen protection system, promote integrationof cultural relics resources, and make them play active role ineconomic and social development.

In July, 2013, the first national movable cultural relics worklasted from July to October. The identification work finished 7months in advance, while the collection and fill-in work finishedon Dec 31st, 2014, one year ahead of the deadline.

The exhibition is hosted by Suzhou Municipal Bureau ofcultural relics and Suzhou Museum, which displays more than ahundred pieces of delicate artifacts from 17 state-owned units inthe city. The artifacts in this exhibition has an abundant sourcewhich includes some professional organization like museum andarchaeology as well as some institution like government department,hospital and enterprise. The cultural relics which dates from theNeolithic period to modern times presents a clear sequence of thedevelopment of history and culture of the city of Suzhou. Theartifacts covers a variety of collection such as stone, pottery,bronze, jade, porcelain, painting and calligraphy, furniture,stationery, wood and horn, which can be said as the epitome of thetwo thousand five hundred years’ civilization of the city ofSuzhou.

This is the first display and exhibition of the achievements of thefirst national movable cultural relic’s general investigation,which aims to enrich the foundation of movable cultural relic’sresources, fully develop the public cultural service function andbetter inherit Chinese excellent traditional culture.
